From 2000 to 2009 the eminent economist was a member of the German Council of Economic Experts and from 2005 onwards its chairman. As an advisor of many German federal governments and head of the so-called “Rürup Commission” he prepared the reforms which have made Germany the world’s most efficient industrial nation today.

For many years Jörg was head of Handelsblatt’s information and research department, the nucleus of today’s Handelsblatt Research Institute. He studied economics at the University of Cologne where he did his doctorate on an economic and social history-related subject . He then completed a professorial dissertation on mid-19th century Prussian central bank policy. Jörg has been with Handelsblatt since 1997.

Vita
Simon studied history and social sciences in Wuppertal, near Düsseldorf. He has been with Handelsblatt since 2011, initially as a copy editor. A spell in the information and research department was good preparation for the Handelsblatt Research Institute, where he has been since 2013, working on desk research and company histories.
He plays the drums in his leisure time.

Astrid qualified as a foreign language correspondent and began her career as an assistant at Kienbaum Management Consultants before moving on to the Handelsblatt Publishing Group where she has been for 16 years. She joined the Handelsblatt Research Institute in April 2014. A country girl at heart, she is interested in interior design, goes shopping far too much and otherwise devotes herself to spoiling her only child.

Barbara qualified as an economist and came to Handelsblatt Research Institute from Deutsche Bank Research where she worked from 2009 to 2012 as an information specialist.There she was responsible for market and industry analyses as well as competition studies for the Mittelstand sector. Prior to that she spent eight years as a journalist and German correspondent of the Czech business newspaper Hospodářské Noviny.
She is a passionate skier, speaks five languages fluently and enjoys research into the chemical interaction between carboxymethylcellulose and glucose (important for baking, apparently).

Julia studied business administration at the Humboldt University in Berlin, the Australian National University in Canberra and Maastricht University. She joined the Handelsblatt Research Institute at the beginning of 2013, where she is involved in desk research and contributes to studies and guides.
She loves dancing and travelling around the world, learning about new cultures. As a hobby photographer she has a keen eye for fascinating landscapes.

Dennis studied economics at the University of Hanover. He joined the Handelsblatt Research Institute in 2012 , where he is particularly involved with economic analyses on the subject of pension policy and provision for old age. By definition, this means that he also follows global financial markets very closely.
He is a very keen sportsman, runs the occasional marathon and is, even privately, fascinated by the crazy goings-on on the stock exchange.

After studying international economics at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and the Arhus School of Business in Denmark, in November 2008 Sven became a professorial research associate for labour market and regional policies at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. In both research and teaching he was involved with aspects of (empirical) labour market economics and regional policy.His doctoral thesis, which he completed in May 2014, was on the subject of companies’ workforce adjustments in the business cycle. He joined the Handelsblatt Research Institute in October 2014
He was born and grew up in a town which doesn’t really exist, but at the same time is famous for pizza, pudding and an Alpine pasture without mountains and cows. After this “period abroad“ in Franconia, he now calls the Rhineland home. He skis and rides motorbike in his leisure time, i.e. not often …..

Jan has worked for the Handelsblatt Research Institute since the beginning of 2015. He studied economics and English at the Ruhr-University in Bochum , where he completed a doctorate in 2013. Thanks to his empirical work on health and labour market economics he gained a great deal of experience in the research, analysis and evaluation of comprehensive information in modern economies.
Proud of his roots, the man from the Ruhr area is a long-suffering supporter of soccer club, VfL Bochum and likes to take in open air festivals during vacation time.

Thomas is an experienced researcher with particular expertise in technological matters and has made digitalisation one of the research team’s strengths. When he joined Handelsblatt from the Heinrich Bauer publishing house in 1998, he became the driving force behind the creation of electronic press archives and reference books. He studied information science with a focus on economics and media.
He was born in Hessen and lives with his wife and two children with whom he spends most of his leisure time, taking them on extended hikes and bicycle tours in the enchanting Lower Rhine area.

Gudrun, an information specialist and librarian, has been with Handelsblatt since 1994. Initially she undertook research on behalf of external clients in the publishing group’s data banks and archives. She subsequently worked on the editorial department’s research team, specifically on cover stories and special reports on financial markets. She produces share analyses, overviews of share buybacks, DAX shareholder structures and company ranking lists.

Axel is an economist who has been with Handelsblatt since 1999 - he writes about state finances and the economic climate. He is respected by experts for his thorough reports and critical analyses. He has been with the Handelsblatt Research Institute since the summer of 2014.

After getting an "International Business Studies" degree Cornelia joined Handelsblatt in the year 2000 where she researched and analysed economic and political facts and data for the editorial department, specialising in companies and markets. She calculates earnings, margins, quotas and other key figures for special reports and ranking lists, enabling readers to make comparisons.She is based in the Berlin bureau of the Handelsblatt Research Institute.
Cornelia is a Berliner-by-choice and likes to go for bicycle rides in and around the city at the weekend.
