Private investment in Germany
Analysis of the lack of investment in Germany
Project description
Study design
More important than a volatile economic cycle is a policy for long-term growth. Against the background of demographic change and an ageing population, Germany is dependent on modern capital stock.
A joint study conducted by the Handelsblatt Research Institute (HRI) and the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin) and commissioned by the Joint Committee of German Industry shows a lack of investment activity in Germany, going back decades. In comparison with other EU and OECD countries , the following sectors in particular are lagging behind: miscellaneous services, transport and communication as well as education and health.
"In October 2015, the Handelsblatt Research Institute and the DIW jointly submitted a thorough analysis they had conducted for the Joint Committee of German Industry. The study shows how investment activity by state and private companies could be increased. The medium-term increase in the German economy’s growth potential should be an objective all parties can agree to. In this context, the HRI provides the right, up-to-date analysis."
